It's officially summer. And It will likely be a very, very weird one for all of us.

For us Texans, our treasured public pools will be looking very different this year. Let's put it this way: it's going to be a sweaty 3 months.

The idea of endurance has been on my mind a lot lately. I'll be leading a workshop on this topic with Creative Mornings next Friday. I'll talk about 5 things we need to cultivate endurance in our creative lives - Routine, Novelty, Encouragement, Permission, and Service  - and how these things help us thrive.

I'll be thinking about these 5 things as I make plans to keep myself balanced this summer. Here's what I'll be up to:


1. Getting a change of scenery from the office / studio / gym / zoom conference-center that is my house. (novelty)

2. Understanding the changes happening in my city with regard to the pandemic, the BLM movement, police funding, economic recovery and the role of the arts within all this. (service)

3. Working on my podcast, A Mighty Practice. Today's episode is on Jealousy! (routine)

4. Connecting with loved ones on a regular basis, even if it's virtually. (encouragement)

5. Starting a school. (permission)
