You know your neighbors are as tired by quarantine as you are when crying-while-biking seems to be the new neighborhood trend.
This week I came across not one, but three instances of small children crying-while-biking. And I don't mean a bike-ride with a few tears, I mean a bike-ride where the crying and the biking are both happening at full speed with 110% commitment. If you've ever seen this before it's both a sad and wildly funny sight. The rider needs to cry but they just. can't. stop. peddling. So they keep doing both.
What a great metaphor for this moment.
This connects to something I've been thinking about lately: endurance. Emotional endurance, physical endurance, psychological endurance, creative endurance, all the types of endurance we need at this moment. We need it all.
How do we cultivate the endurance that a global crisis requires of us?
I will not pretend to have an answer to this. I think managing boredom is a piece of it. Being grateful is another. Building a routine that takes care of your mind and your body also feels key. It's an evolving discovery.
This week on my podcast I talk about endurance as it relates to your creative practice in Making Time for Your Creative Work. If you want to talk more about endurance in your creative or personal life, my next Mindset Mondaysworkshop will center around the theme of cultivating endurance. Stay strong out there. Cry on your bike if you need to. I won't judge.
